Father Róbert Bezák, C.Ss.R. Appointed Archbishop of Trnava, Slovakia.

On Saturday, the Holy Father appointed Father Róbert Bezák, C.Ss.R.of the Vice Province of Bratislava the next Archbishop of Trnava, Slovakia. Father Bozák was currently serving as administrator and superior of the Redemptorist community in Banská Bystrica-Radvań.

Father Bezák was born in Prievidza, Slovakia on March 1, 1960. On August 1, 1980 he made his first profession. He completed his philosophy and theology studies at the Theological school in Bratislava. He made his perpetual profession in 1983 and was ordained a priest on June 14, 1984 at Banská Bystrica.

From 1984 to 1990 he was a parish priest in Brezno, Detva and Ziar and Hronom where he was parochial administrator of Sklené Teplice, Tužina e Ulánka. From 1990 to 1993 he studied moral theology at the Alphonsianum and obtained his licenciate.

From 1993 to 2005 he was Vice Provincial Superior of Bratislava and President of the Slovakian Conference of Major Superiors. From 1994 to 2000 he studied for his Doctorate in Moral Theology at the Theological Institute of Banská Bystrica and at the Aloisianum at the University of Trnava.

From 2005 to 2008 he was Administrator of our Redemptorist Marian shrine of Staré Hory.

Father Bezák succeeds Archbishop Ján Sokol, who reached retirement age.
