INTRODUCING CSSR-IM – A Redemptorist Instant Messaging-Chat Service

The Redemptorist Communications Office in Rome announces a new service called CSSR-IM. CSSR-IM is an instant messenger application that is similar to AOL Messenger and MSN Messenger. But CSSR-IM is our very own service developed just for Redemptorists.

If you already have AOL or MSN Instant Messengers you can integrate either or both into CSSR-IM and have one program that uses all three. That is, you will have one program on your computer: CSSR-IM, that will incorporate your contacts (buddy names) from AOL and MSN automatically.

This is only the beginning! CSSR-IM will also bring you, via links, breaking news from Redemptorist Information Services. And,you will have instant contact will all other CSSR-IM subscribers who are online.

Once you have subscribed, your user name will appear automatically on the on-line list so that Redemptorist CSSR-IM subscribers from anywhere in the world can see you and contact you instantly. (Of course you can turn the messenger “offline” when you do not want to be contacted.) Chats can be private between two people, or groups of people can have a group chat using the AOL messenger interface. Conversations can be saved to your computer and printed out if you desire.

Because this is a new communications initiative, CSSR-IM is in trial mode. Although this first version’s interface is in English, it supports the use of just about any language as long as the subscribers are both using language specific versions of MS Windows. If people are using two different languages at the same time some special characters may default to one or the other language.

If the response is good, then CSSR-IM templates will be built in various other languages as the need arises.

Some of the other features of CSSR-IM are:
Buddy groups (contact groups)
Embedded emotion icons (emoticons)
Only 1/2 MB in size
Breaking news updates from Redemptorist Information Services
Audio-Visual chat if your computer is equipped with camera and speakers.
Free CSSR-IM Web-mail subscriptions available.

The requirements for installing and using CSSR-IM are:
1. Microsoft Windows. We recommend Windows 98/2000/ME/NT/XP/and up
2. A connection to the Internet

To subscribe :
send an e-mail to cssrim@cssr.com requesting a subscription. Write “subscribe” in the subject line and give us your complete name. You will be sent a username, which will be your first initial and last name, a personal password, and an address where you can download the latest version of CSSR-IM.

If two subscribers have the same name then the first two initials and last name will be used, or numerals 1,2, etc. etc.
