Father José Luiz Ferreira Salles, C.SS.R. named auxiliary bishop of Fortaleza, Brasil

Today the Holy Father nominated as an auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Fortaleza Father José Luiz Ferriera Salles, C.SS.R. He was given the titular see of Tipasa di Numidia.

Padre José was born on January 23, 1957 at Itirapina in the diocese of São Carlos in the state of São Paulo. He went to elementary school at Grupo Escolar in Itirapina and attended the Redemptorist seminary Santa Teresinha at Tieté. He studied philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas and Theology at the Instituto Teológico São Paulo at Ipiranga.

He made his first profession as a Redemptorist on January 31, 1982 and perpetual profession on January 27, 1985. He was ordained on December 14, 1985.

Padre José has worked on the mission team at São João da Boa Vista, and in the diocese of Garanhuns. He was Vice Provincial Superior of Recife from 1996 to 2004. At the present time he is serving as a formation director for the merged Brazilian theologate at Fortaleza.
