HOLY FATHER GIVES ASSENT TO THE GREEK-CATHOLIC SYNOD OF BISHOPS ELECTION OF FATHER JAROSLÁW PRYRÍZ, C.SS.R. AS AUXILIARY BISHOP OF THE SAMBIR-DROHOBYCH EPARCHY OF THE UKRAINE.
The Holy Father has given his assent to the canonical election by the Synod of Bishops of the Greek-Catholic Ukrainian Church, of Father Jarosláw Pryríz, C.SS.R., currently Protosincellus (Vicar General) of the eparchy of Sambir-Drohobych, Ukraine as auxiliary of the same eparchy.
Father Pryríz was born on March 30th, 1963 in Lastivka in the province of Drohobych in the Region of Lviv, Ukraine. He was ordained a priest on December 4, 1988 and entered the Redemptorists in 1993, professing vows on August 19, 1994. In 1997 he obtained his licentiate degree in Patrology at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome. Father Pryríz has rendered pastoral service in several parishes of the Eparchy. From 1997 to 2001 he was Prefect of students at the Redemptorist Institute at Lviv and was made Rector also. Since June of 2005, he has been the Protosincellus of the Sambir-Drohobych eparchy.
Father Pryríz speaks Italian, English, Greek and Latin.
The Sambir-Drohobych eparchy has an area of 6,900 square miles, a population of 609,359 of which 403,248 are Catholics; 245 priests and 35 religious.
