Keeping informed during the XXIV General Chapter

In anticipation of the XXIV General Chapter, we would like to explain to you how you will be able to keep informed during the historic proceedings, which begin on October 19th. Please read this completely as it will guide you to the specific ways to access the General Chapter coverage according to the abilities of your internet connection and your computer.

For the last year, as a member of the Chapter Preparatory Committee, we have been planning on how to give you the most complete and interesting coverage and make that coverage as user-friendly (simple) and inexpensive as we can .

The main portal (doorway) to chapter coverage will be: http://www.cssr.tv/xxiv/chapter.htm . Bookmark it for easy access. When you enter this portal, choose the language menu of your choice. If you have a good computer and a good internet connection, this portal should be all you need. Be patient in loading the page the very first time. Subsequent loadings should load faster. If it is difficult for you to use this portal or it runs too slow for you, then you will need to access General Chapter coverage through the old portal at www.cssr.com, which we explain further below at : ALTERNATE CHAPTER COVERAGE.

We invite you to explore the http://www.cssr.tv/xxiv/chapter.htm portal and become familiar with its features so when the General Chapter begins, you will know how to find what you are looking for. For your viewing pleasure, you will notice on the portal page photos of all the chapter representatives and of all the Superior Generals of the Congregation, beginning with St. Alphonsus, as we prepare to elect the Father Tobin’s successor. Scroll through them as you please.

An added feature that has never been used before at our General Chapters is live video streaming of some of the events (TV: Live and Archived). Because of the time differences around the world we will also record some of these events for “on demand” viewing at your convenience. The events of the first week to be streamed have been pre-approved by the Regional Meetings and General Council and listed in the Events menu (Events) section. Note that the time given is Rome time. Make your necessary calculations of the time difference to tune in to these events live. After the first week, this schedule will be updated on a weekly basis after consultation with the Chapter moderators.

Since video streaming is a “first” for us, we ask your patience in working out any technological problems or difficulties we may encounter in the first few days. Also, be aware that we can only stream one language audio channel. We don’t have the capability of simultaneous translations in various languages at once. We may vary the audio language among the five languages that wll be used at the General Chapter.

Everyday there will be a written daily bulletin summarizing the days activities (Daily Bulletin). This bulletin will be posted in the website’s seven different languages. We will post these written reports in the Daily Bulletin menu item (also at the Latest news menu item in Redemptorist section at www.cssr.com) as soon as they are translated and available. You will need the user name and password, which is unchanged from the 2003 General Chapter. If you have forgotten it or never received it, e-mail Father Dorcey at seg.gen@cssr.com or me at GaryZ@cssr.com.

In the photos section (Photos), we will capture the General Chapter and its participants visually. We have a variety of ways to do that. Currently, we are showing a retrospective of the photos of the 2003 chapter as an example. We also have a “Twitter link” on this page for additional short notices and maybe some recorded video clips and interviews with chapter participants that will be recorded in different languages. You will need to subscribe to Twitter at http://twitter.com/GeneralChapter and become a follower. The videos will also be posted at www.cssr.tv as time allows.

The liturgy section (Liturgy) is mainly for the use and convenience of the chapter members, but the themes and contents of the liturgy may be of interest to you also.

ALTERNATE CHAPTER COVERAGE:

For those of you who may not have a powerful computer or a good connection, (for example, you still use dial-up) then you will want to continue to use our www.cssr.com website as it was used at our last Chapter in 2003. The structure of this site remains unchanged and also gives you most of the information as described in the new portal page minus the flash pages and video. Go to www.cssr.com and click on the menu item Redemptorist area, then enter the user name and password (unchanged from last time, but if you have forgotten or don’t have them, e-mail Father Dorcey seg.gen@cssr.com or me, GaryZ@cssr.com and we will provide them to you.), then click on XXIV General Chapter, then click on the menu item of your choice.

To summarize:

Main portal: Go to and bookmark: http://www.cssr.tv/xxiv/chapter.htm then choose the menu language of your choice.
You can twitter at: http://twitter.com/GeneralChapter

For additional short video interviews and clips besides the live and archived video, go to www.cssr.tv
Alternative Chapter coverage portal for older computers and slow connections: www.cssr.com. Redemptorist area, password protected, menu item: XXIV General Chapter.

Explore your options in advance and become familiar with the sites so as to be prepared to keep informed on the proceedings of the historic XXIV General Chapter!
