Pilgrimage for Professed Redemptorist in Formation
World Youth Day, 2008

The Australian and New Zealand Redemptorists are arranging a pilgrimage centered on World Youth Day, 2008. The pilgrimage will be more extensive then World Youth Day, but will include WYD festivities in Sydney, Australia.

Pilgrims will visit various parts of Australia. At each stage they will be assisted in exploring the Redemptorist way of life and mission. It will be a chance to re-imagine the future of the Congregation together. It will also be a chance to make new friends and create new alliances for now and for years to come.

The pilgrimage will begin in Perth, WA (arrival point) on July 4, 2008. It will finish in Sydney, NSW (departure point) on July 26, 2008.

Professed Redemptorists in Formation (chorists and brothers) are warmly invited to take part in the pilgrimage. There will be a maximum of 37 pilgrims and a minimum of 25. If more than 37 confreres apply, then selection of the 37 will be based upon date of first profession, date of final profession, and with a priority for confreres from the region of Asia/Oceania.

Travel costs to and from Australia, health and travel insurance, miscellaneous expenses remain the responsibility of the province of origin. During the pilgrimage within Australia, the Province of Canberra (Australia and New Zealand) will cover all travel (air, train coach, bus ferry) costs, most meals and all accommodation and registration expenses. Accommodation is already booked and details may be found on the “PRELIMINARY ITINERARY” form available for download from the site.

Also available for download from the site is a “STATEMENT OF INTENT” form. If you wish to join the pilgrimage, then, with provincial approval, you should fill out the form and return it to Fr. Edmond Nixon, C.Ss.R. by SEPTEMBER 30, 2007. Contact details are on the form.

The “Statement of Intent” form is not a registration. You will be contacted about registration details during October 2007. It is suggested that you not purchase an airline ticket to Australia until your registration is confirmed. Your registration will be handled through the Australian and New Zealand Redemptorists and NOT through the WYDSYD08 office.
